Leng Changjian Led Delegation to Visit Tanzania

Shannong Rongmei News, April 23 - From April 13 to 17, Leng Changjian, Deputy Party Secretary and President of the university, led a delegation to visit Tanzania. The delegation engaged in in-depth exchanges with the Tanzania Agricultural Research Institute and Dar es Salaam University, achieving fruitful results and further promoting pragmatic cooperation between our university and Tanzania.


The delegation conducted in-depth visits and exchanges at the Tanzania Agricultural Research Institute. At the headquarters, Leng Changjian held talks with Dr. Thomas Bouana, Director of the institute. He introduced the university's history, the construction of overseas science and technology small communities, as well as information on recruitment majors, curriculum settings, and scholarships for international students. They discussed deepening joint training for agricultural doctoral and master's degree international students, signed a new joint training agreement, established the "Shandong Agricultural University International Student Source Base", and reached broad consensus on joint talent cultivation, collaborative scientific research, agricultural technology training and promotion, and co-building the "Shandong Agricultural University Tanzania Overseas Science and Technology Small Community".

        

At the Hongbola Agricultural Research Center, the delegation had discussions with Dr. Emmanuel Chilagane, Director of the center, and others. They learned about the construction and operation of the center's agricultural production test sites, crop greenhouses, and field trial bases. They visited local farmers to understand the growth and pest conditions of crops such as corn. They reached an intention to strengthen personnel and technical exchanges in areas such as modern agricultural production base construction. At the Kibaha Center, the delegation gained an in-depth understanding of the center's research facilities and achievements. They held talks with Dr. Naisy Luambano, Director of the center, and others, introducing the university's discipline construction, research platforms, and scientific research achievements. They reached an agreement on jointly hosting academic conferences and applying for scientific research projects.

During the visit to Dar es Salaam University, Leng Changjian and Manoko, Dean of the College of Agriculture and Food Sciences, had a thorough and in-depth discussion on the possibility of cooperation in areas such as crop breeding, agricultural mechanization, food processing technology, pest control, and smart agriculture. They reached a consensus on signing a memorandum of understanding.

During the visit to the Chinese Embassy in Tanzania, Leng Changjian reported on the university's educational cooperation and exchanges with Tanzania and other African countries, as well as its next plans. He requested support and assistance from the embassy regarding cooperation in training agricultural master's and doctoral international students from Tanzania, overseas science and technology small communities, and China-Tanzania agricultural cultural exchanges. Che Zhaoguang, Counselor of Culture at the embassy, highly affirmed the good cooperation foundation between the university and the Tanzania Agricultural Research Institute. He hoped that the university would continue to strive, comprehensively deepen and expand substantive cooperation with relevant universities and institutions in Tanzania, and contribute greater strength to promoting people-to-people exchanges and mutual understanding between the two countries and building a new era all-weather China-Africa community with a shared future.

The delegation also visited the Shandong Qilu Chamber of Commerce in Tanzania and the Shandong Wuzheng Group Tanzania Business Department. Relevant officials from the university's Graduate School, International Department, and Finance Department participated in the activities.
