The predecessor of the College of Water Conservancy and Civil Engineering, Shandong Agricultural University, was Shandong Jinan Water Conservancy School founded in Jinan in July 1955. It relocated to Tai’an in 1958 and merged with Shandong Agricultural University in 1999 to establish the College of Water Conservancy and Civil Engineering. Over more than 60 years of development, relying on the strengths and distinctive disciplines of Shandong Agricultural University, the college has grown into a high-level engineering college with prominent advantages in hydraulic engineering, distinctive characteristics in agricultural soil and water engineering, and coordinated development of civil engineering, enjoying sound reputation and influence at home and abroad.
The college has 114 faculty members, including 91 full-time teachers: 14 professors, 44 associate professors, and 41 teachers holding doctoral degrees. It enrolls more than 2,400 undergraduates and nearly 200 postgraduates.
Seven undergraduate majors are offered: Hydraulic and Hydroelectric Engineering, Hydrology and Water Resources Engineering, Civil Engineering, Road, Bridge and River Crossing Engineering, Water Supply and Drainage Science and Engineering, Built Environment and Energy Application Engineering, and Architecture. Among them, Hydraulic and Hydroelectric Engineering and Civil Engineering are Shandong Provincial Characteristic Majors. Hydraulic and Hydroelectric Engineering has been selected for the Shandong Program for Supporting the Development of Applied Talents Training Majors in General Undergraduate Universities and the Shandong Distinctive University Construction Project, and has twice passed the International Engineering Education Accreditation. The Civil Engineering Major Cluster has been approved by the Shandong Provincial Department of Education as a self-funded high-level applied major cluster under construction. The college owns 1 provincial-level teaching team, 13 provincial high-quality courses, and over 40 on-campus and off-campus bases for teaching, research and practical education.
Faculty have undertaken more than 100 research projects including those funded by the National Natural Science Foundation of China, National Key R&D Program, Shandong Provincial Natural Science Foundation and Shandong Provincial Key R&D Program, and completed over 200 horizontal research projects with total funding exceeding 30 million RMB, generating remarkable social and economic benefits.
The college is authorized to confer doctoral degrees in Agricultural Hydraulic Engineering, first-tier master’s degrees in Civil Engineering and Hydraulic Engineering, and professional master’s degrees in Civil and Hydraulic Engineering. Hydraulic and Hydroelectric Engineering and Structural Engineering are Key Disciplines of Shandong Province, while Civil Engineering is a Key Cultivation Discipline of Shandong Agricultural University during the 13th Five-Year Plan period.
The college hosts the Shandong Engineering Technology Research Center for Farmland Water Conservancy, Shandong Engineering Technology Research Center for Village and Town Housing, Prefabricated Building Engineering Technology Research Center, Experimental Center for Hydraulic and Civil Engineering, and Geotechnical Engineering & Soil Physics Laboratory. The total value of instruments and equipment exceeds 50 million RMB, covering a laboratory area of over 10,000 square meters. It runs 14 research institutions: Institute of Hydraulic and Hydroelectric Engineering Structures and Materials, Institute of Ecological Hydraulics and Agricultural Soil and Water Engineering, Institute of Water Environment Protection and Pollution Control, Institute of Geotechnical Engineering, Institute of Engineering Hydraulics, Institute of Hydrology and Water Resources, Institute of Smart Water Conservancy, Institute of Ecological Hydraulics, Institute of Civil Engineering Structures and Materials, Institute of Village and Town Housing Engineering Technology, Institute of Municipal Water Safety, Institute of Intelligent Buildings, Green Building Materials Engineering Technology Research Center, and Research Center for Geotechnical Engineering Disaster Prevention and Control.
The college has built sound exchange and cooperation partnerships with overseas universities including Purdue University, University of South Florida, Washington State University, University of Alberta, University of Western Australia and University of Lille, as well as domestic universities and research institutions such as Hohai University, China Agricultural University, Northwest A&F University, China Institute of Water Resources and Hydropower Research, Beijing Water Science and Technology Research Institute, Shandong Provincial Department of Water Resources and Shandong Hydrology Bureau, covering talent cultivation and scientific research.
