History

The College of Information Science and Engineering was founded in October 2002, following the founding of  College of Science in 1999 and Foundation Department in 1963.

Majors

It has 6 first-level disciplines: mathematics, physics, electronic science and technology, computer science and technology, surveying and mapping science and technology, as well as electronic information and communication engineering. It has 11 undergraduate programs in computer science and technology, information and computing science, electronic information science and technology, surveying and mapping engineering, network engineering, remote sensing science and technology, space information and digital technology, mathematics and applied mathematics, communication engineering, internet of things engineering, as well as data science and big data technology.

The college owns 2 master's degree authorization stations in first-class disciplines of computer science and technology as well as surveying and mapping science and technology. It also has 7 second class master's degree authorization stations, including computer system architecture, computer software and theory, computer application technology, geodesy, photogrammetry and remote sensing, cartography and geographic information engineering, as well as agricultural engineering and information technology. The college has 1 master's degree authorization station in agronomy in the field of agricultural engineering and information technology and 1 minor of computer science and technology.

Faculty

It is composed of 7 departments: Department of Computer Science and Technology, Department of Public Mathematics, Department of Applied Physics, Department of Surveying and Mapping, Department of Electronic and Communication Engineering, Department of Applied Mathematics, Department of Data Science, etc. There are 3 university-level experimental teaching centers, including Computer Experimental Teaching Center, Physics Experimental Teaching Center and Surveying Experimental Teaching Center. There are183 faculty and staff members, including 149 full-time teachers, 22 professors, 73 associate professors, 1 doctoral supervisor , 34 master's supervisors.

Talent cultivation

At present, there are 3141 undergraduate students and 82 graduate students. The college has always been attaching great importance to the cultivation of students' innovative ability, and has set up 4 innovative and pioneering workrooms, 5 pioneering teams and 6 professional societies for students. In recent years, the college has made many achievements in national and provincial professional skills competitions, such as national college students' measurement skills competition, college students' mathematics competition, Qilu Software Design Competition, and national mathematical contest in modeling competition. Since 2016, 450 innovation and entrepreneurship projects have been set up by students, of which 36 are at the national level. The students have been awarded for more than 2000 times in innovation or professional skills competition at provincial level or above.

Achievements in teaching and research

The college has 6 top-quality university-level courses, namely, advanced mathematics A, advanced mathematics C, computer network, general physics, linear algebra and surveying. It has 3 MOOCs including advanced mathematics C , university physics , university computer foundation. Teachers have been granted 219 teaching awards above university level. It has 2 university-level excellent teaching teams, 1 university-level renowned teacher and 2 outstanding teachers. The teachers have supported more than 60 teaching and research projects, published more than 150 teaching and research papers and 50 textbooks.

Since 2011, our teachers have  presided over a total of 185 national and provincial research projects, with over 60 million yuan in funding. They have obtained 59 national patents and 223 software copyrights, and published 455 scientific papers, among which 252 were indexed by SCI, EI and ISTP. Scientific research projects have won 16 provincial-level awards and more than 20 university-level awards.

Features and advantages

Information and computing science, surveying and mapping engineering are university-level featured majors. The major of surveying and mapping engineering is a pilot reform major of excellent engineer education in Shandong province, which passed the professional certification of engineering education organized by the Ministry of Education in 2018. In 2019, majors of surveying and mapping engineering as well as computer science and technology were approved as first class undergraduate majors in Shandong province.

The college owns 5 provincial and ministerial science and technology innovation platforms, 2 departmental science and technology innovation platforms, and 1 university-enterprise cooperation science and technology innovation platform. It also has 1 research center for agricultural big data technology, which has accumulated a large number of research results in fields of big data collection, processing, analysis and mining and provides strong support for agricultural sciences, life sciences, resources and environment, etc.
