History

The College of Chemistry and Material Science was established in 2002. After nearly 20 years of development, the college owns 2 provincial teaching and research platforms, namely, Technical Research Center for Food Safety Analysis and Detection in Shandong Province and Chemical Experimental Teaching Demonstration Center in Shandong Province. The college also founded the China-Germany Modern Agricultural Research Center in cooperation with BASF Company (Germany) and the Carbon-One Chemistry Laboratory in cooperation with Shandong Chambroad Holding Group. Moreover, the college owns one school level research platform, Laboratory of Creation and Application of Functional Environmental Agricultural Films. The college hold advanced experimental equipments which worth the total sum of 30 million Yuan.

Majors

The college has three undergraduate majors, including Applied Chemistry, Material Chemistry and Resource Cycle Science and Engineering. The college has first-level discipline Master's degree granting rights for Chemistry major, and also professional master's degree granting rights for Material and Chemical Engineering major. At present, there are more than 900 undergraduate students and more than 90 graduate students.

Faculty

The college has a fully reinforced team with abundant teaching experience. There are 80 faculty members (60 teaching staff) in total at present, including 19 professors and 31 associate professors which accounts for 62.5% of the faculty. And 54 members possess doctoral degrees which accounts for 90% of the faculty. In addition, more than 33% of the faculty has overseas study or working experience. There are three Ph. D. supervisors and thirty Master's supervisors, one foreign Chair Professor, one Outstanding Mid-Aged Expert of Shandong province, one in the Shandong double hundred foreign professionals program, and one in the West Talent program.

Teaching

The college attaches great importance to improve the teaching and construction of courses. It has been undertaking the basic chemistry teaching of 13 majors. The annual total working load of teaching amounts over 25000 class hours. The annual total experimental teaching amounts to 405 thousand person hours. The college has four provincial excellent courses, four school-level excellent courses and two massive open online courses, Basic Experimental Chemistry and Inorganic and Analytical Chemistry II. In recent years, the college acquired four teaching achievement awards above the provincial level and published twenty one textbooks.     

Research

The college puts great emphasis on theoretical and application research, and actively carries out interdisciplinary research centered on agricultural biological analysis, resource utilization, green synthesis and agricultural green materials. In the past five years, the college undertook more than 100 projects from National Key R&D Program of China, Natural Science Foundation of China etc., which assumed funds with more than 30 million Yuan. In the past five years, the college obtained the third prize of Shandong Provincial Natural Science Award one time and acquired more than 20 national patens. 6projects have realized commercialization and more than 500 papers were published with more than 300 SCI and EI indexed papers. In May 2019, the total citation of the college papers has in the top 1% of chemical ESI ranking.  

Talent cultivation

In the past five years, the employment rate of students graduated from the college maintained above 99%. The college recruits students by the large classification of Chemistry subjects since 2018. The college has been successively for many years honored with the title of Advanced Unit in Admission and Employment by the University. Over 50% of the graduated students received further education. They are admitted for further study and research in renowned universities both at home and abroad, such as The Chinese Academy of Sciences, Tsinghua University, Nankai university, Zhejiang University, Sun Yat-sen University, The Northeastern University, University of Adelaide, etc.
