The College of Physical Education was founded in July 2018, evolved from the former Physical Education Teaching Department and the College of Physical Education and Arts. It undertakes a full spectrum of work including general physical education courses, extracurricular mass sports activities, training and competitions for high-level sports teams, development of sports-related majors, and management and services of sports venues. It offers two undergraduate majors focusing on high-level athletic training: Business Administration (Sports Direction) and Social Sports Guidance and Management. The college has 57 faculty members, including 7 professors and 17 associate professors. Among the staff are 2 international referees, 6 national referees, 27 Grade I referees and 2 national social sports instructors. Four high-level sports teams are under its administration: Track and Field, Men’s Basketball, Women’s Basketball, and Wushu.

Drawing on the university’s profound cultural heritage and premium sports venues, the college adheres to the guiding philosophy of People-oriented, All-round Development, Health First. Centered on physical education teaching and highlighted by competitive sports, it prioritizes the development of the men’s basketball team, vigorously organizes mass sports and cultural events, and advances sports major development and sports scientific research in parallel. Committed to cultivating application-oriented sports talents with innovative minds and advancing connotative development, the college has gradually established a distinctive physical education system and standardized management operation model.The General Physical Education Teaching Team was recognized as a Provincial-level Teaching Team in 2012, and Shandong Provincial Evaluation of Physical Education Curriculum Construction rated the college Excellent in 2013.

Constant breakthroughs have been achieved in competitive sports performance. The college claimed the Principal’s Cup at the Shandong Provincial University Students’ Sports Games for two consecutive sessions.The Men’s Basketball Team has won the championship of Shandong University Students’ Basketball League six times, securing six consecutive titles from the 2015 to 2020 seasons. It has qualified for national competitions for many years in a row and historically reached the national Top 8 at the 20th CUBA Chinese University Basketball Association League. The Track and Field Team took the overall first place at the National Agricultural Universities Students’ Track and Field Games twice running, and claimed the championship of East China Agricultural Universities Students’ Track and Field Games for eleven consecutive years, ranking among the top agricultural universities nationwide in competitive sports results.

In recent years, faculty members have published more than 150 papers, over 30 of which appeared in core journals. They have presided over 15 provincial and above research projects, won more than 30 various awards, and published over 10 textbooks and monographs.

The college serves as the Chairman Unit of the Basketball Branch of Shandong University Sports Association, the Chairman Unit of the Physical Education Council of East China Agricultural Universities, and the Basketball Training Base of Shandong Basketball Administration Center. The Shandong Research Center for Youth Campus Basketball Development is affiliated to our college. We have built close ties with more than 50 universities including Beijing Sport University, China Agricultural University and Nanjing Agricultural University, and carry out regular academic exchanges. (Updated in April 2024)
