Shannong Media, July 11 — Recently, Clarivate released the latest ESI (Essential Science Indicators) data, showing that our university's two global top 1‰ disciplines—Plant and Animal Science and Agricultural Science—continue to climb. Plant and animal sciences rose from 89th globally (0.441‰ per mille) in January 2026 to 68th globally (0.331‰), an increase of 21 places; Agricultural science rose from 84th globally and 0.588‰ per mille in January 2026 to 68th globally and 0.466‰ per mille, an increase of 16 places. Among them, the thousand-point ranking for plant and animal science firmly holds the top spot among provincial universities in Shandong.

To date, our university has ranked in the top 1% globally in eight disciplines: Plant and Animal Sciences, Agricultural Sciences, Chemistry, Environmental Science and Ecology, Molecular Biology and Genetics, Biology and Biochemistry, Engineering, and Microbiology.

In recent years, the school has thoroughly implemented the spirit of General Secretary Xi Jinping's important discourse on education and the important speech of inspecting Shandong, adhered to the four orientations, taking morality and cultivating people as the fundamental task, serving the country as the highest pursuit, closely focusing on the national first-class discipline construction goal, exploring and practicing to establish the one, two, three, five construction. Ideas, constantly optimize the layout of disciplines, and work together to create the peak of large crop science and big horticulture disciplines. Take the lead in establishing 7 Qilu Agricultural Industry Research Institute and the Comprehensive Utilization Innovation Institute of Saline Land, including wheat, corn, soybeans, peanuts, tomatoes, modern facility agriculture and Luxi yellow cattle, jointly build the Qilu Granary Development Strategy Research Center with China Agricultural University, and hold the construction of crop science disciplines and a higher level of Qilu Granary Seminar, lead the construction of Shandong Modern Agricultural Higher Education Community and Shandong Modern Agriculture Joint Graduate School, unveiled the establishment of the Crop Microstructure Research Institute, jointly built CIMMYT-China Shandong Wheat and Corn Research Center with the International Corn Improvement Center, and led the establishment of China-Central and Eastern European countries modern agricultural science education The core competitiveness of the school continues to be enhanced by the Innovation Alliance, the International Food Loss Reduction and the New Food Youth Alliance.
